Discussions between experts in the USA what the ideal armament of battleships was according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1905-1906 no. 3
An item referred to the magazine Le Yacht reporting that the American Board of Construction during a meeting with the Conseil supérieur discussing the new battleships designs stated the armament should consist of 4-30,5cm guns and at the least 4-25,4cm guns. The medium size guns and the protection of the light artillery could be decreased to be able to protect the lower part of the funnels and the ventilators c.q. coamings. The weight saving could be further used for a thicker armour of the upper part and for more shells for each gun available.
