An item
referred to the magazine R.M. dated August 1939 reported that the Italian
submarine building program 1938 consisted of totally 16 submarines divided over
4 types, although all ocean going submarines:
The
Capellini-class of 2-951ton boats with an armament of 4-10cm guns(?), anti
aircraft guns and 8-53,3cm torpedo tubes. Horsepower 3.000 hp and a speed of 17
knots. At that moment being built.
The
Marconi-class of 6-1.36 ton boats with an armament of 2-10cm guns, 4 anti
aircraft machineguns and 8-53,3cm torpedo tubes. Horsepower 3.600 hp and a
speed of 18 knots.
The Luizzi-class
pf 4-1.031 boats with an armament of 2-10cm guns, 4 anti aircraft machineguns
and 8-53,3cm torpedo tubes. Speed 18 knots. Three were being built.
The
Saint Bon-class of 4-1.461 tons with an armament of 2-10cm guns, 4 anti
aircraft machine guns and 14-45,03cm guns. Total horsepower 4.600 hp and a
speed of 18 knots. The building of these submarines was to be started.(1)
