Former Danish coastal defence ship Olfert Fischer used as target ship according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1937 no. 2


An item referred to the magazine Marine Rundschau dated January 1937 in which the captain lieutenant Steen Steensen (1) of the Royal Danish Navy the conversions of the Olfert Fischer (2) into a target ship for air attacks scribed. She was a former coastal defence ships. Due to the fact that she still was manned with a minor crew numbering 60 men consisted the bombs dropped by the aircraft of lead and sand although with the weight of a real active bomb. In October 1936 attacked an army plane and 3 navy planes the Olfert Fischer lying near the South East coast of Seeland. Each plane carrying 4 bombs attacking coming down from 1 kilometre height, totally with 3 hits. Experts on board of the target had their doubts about the value of the test due to the height which was not realistic regarded the anti aircraft guns. Of the 260 bombs dropped during the tests were just 10 a hit.
