New German ocean going submarine cruisers according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad 1917/1918 no. 3

An item referred to German newspapers which reported that the German navy built very large submarine with a displacement of 5.000 ton, a length of 400 feet and a range of 18.000 miles. These submarines were armoured and such heavily armed that the they were an equal match for a surfaced cruiser! At that moment were 10 boats of this new type available but the intention was to built first around 100. In a later stadium were again 100 to be built. The building started in 1916 and at the shipyards at Hamburg, Kiel and Bremen, Germany were the needed parts made. According to the newspaper Tagliche Rundschau was the machinery on boat suitable for surfaced and submerged drive.
