Marine Rundschau dated March 1928 reporting that the US Navy possessed 110 completed submarines of which 53 smaller as 600 ton, all dating from 1917-1919 principal for coastal defence tasks. Of the 53 ocean going submarines were 6 larger as 1.000 ton. The major part of these submarines however was added to the fleet being hardly of any use due to their low speed of 13,5-15 miles.
