French navy interested in using submerged vessels for searching and destroying mines according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1912-1913 no. 6
An item referred to the German magazine Schiffbau reporting that the French navy considered using submerged vessels for mine searching and fishing to prevent incidents during this dangerous work. Tests in England proved that this idea was practicable. It was a small submarine fitted out at her bow with large scissors operated from the in side. Optical instruments made an accurate search in the water possible. For night operations was a search light available. According to the German magazine was the chance for causing incidents just increased with the use of such vessels while an exploding mine on short distance would likely also damage the submarine.
