Germany building larger battleships caused enlarging Kaiser Wilhelm Kanal according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1905-1906 no. 8

An item referred to the magazine Mitteilungen a.d.G.d.S. reporting that the new German battleships were to have a minimum displacement of 16.000 tons and as dimensions 135 x 24 x 8,2 metres. The main armament was to consist of 8-28cm guns in an arrangement similar to the King Edward VII and 15-19cm guns. Speed 19,5 miles. The result was that the Kaiser Wilhelm Kanal had to be enlarged and widened including the locks.
