American auxiliary cruiser Dixie nearly destroyed by fire according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1905-1906 no. 8

An item referred to the Army&Naval Journal reporting that the after 18 hours the crew of the American auxiliary cruiser Dixie captain G.A. Merriam succeeded in extinguishing the fire broke out in the centre of the 275 ton coal on board caused by spontaneous combustion.(1)
