Polish amphibious assault command (Project 776) ORP Grunewald 1973-2005
Of the Polnocny or Polnochny-ckass of which several variants were built although with a bow ramp necessary for beach landings. The armament consisted of 2x2-3cm guns, 4 fasta-4M/Streal SAM Positions and 2-14cm bombardment RL’s was for supporting the landing troops. Succeeded by the Ropucha and Lublin classes. The crew numbered 45-99 men. Built at the Stocznia Polnocna shipyard (Northern Shipyard), Gdansk, Poland. In 1973 for the Baltic Fleet. Decommissioned in 2005. The Grunwald was the only of her kind namely the modified Polnocny-C class/Project 1776. With a displacement of 1.253 or 1.314 tons (full load) with as dimensions 81,3 x 9.3 x 2,6 metres or 266.7 x 30.5 x 8.5 feet. Speed 17-18 knots.
