The Protet

An item referred to the Mittheilungen aus dem Gebiete des Seewesens reporting the launching on 16 October [1896] at Le Havre, France of the French protected cruiser 2nd class Catinat. Displacement 4.065 tons and as dimensions 101,2 x 13,6 x 6,45 metres. Two vertical triple expansion steam engines supplied 9.000 ihp 9design) allowing a design speed of 19 miles. The armament consisted of 4-16cm guns, 10-10cm guns, 10-4,7cm guns, 4-3,7cm quick firing guns and 2 torpedo tubes. Building costs 8.079.302 francs included 1.175.034 francs for the artillery and 71.600 for the torpedo equipment.(1)

1. Of the Catinat-class with as sister ship the Protet (1898-1910). Launched at the Forges des Chantiers de la Méditerranée, Le Havre, commissioned in January 1898 and finally stricken in January 1911.
