British cruiser HMS Cumberland captured several German war- and merchant ships on the Kamerun river according to the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Handelsblad dated 1 October 1914


An item dated London, England 1st referred to a statement of the British Admiralty reporting that the British cruiser HMS Cumberland (1) on the Kamerun river captured 8 ships of the Woermann Line and the Arnfield of the Hamburg-Amerika Line, all German property and with a total tonnage of 3.0915 ton. Further more was the German gunboat Soden captured. It was expected that the sunk floating dock and the Hertzogin Elisabeth could be salvaged.
