Built under the 1900 Naval Law and was in fact a redesigned Fürst Bismarck with sacrificing armament and armour for higher speed and decreased building costs. Further more was her secondary armament now concentrated amidships. Laid down at the Kaiserliche Weft, Kiel, Germany in December 1898, launched on 22 March 1900, completed on 20 March 1902, modernized at Kiel in 1914, floating office at Kiel since begin 1916, disarmed, later tender at Kiel, stricken on 25 January 1920, sold and broken up at Audorf-Rensburg. in 1920. Succeeded by the Prinz Adalbert-class.

Displacement 8.857 (standard)-9.806 (full load) tons and as dimensions 124,9 (waterline)-126,59(over all) x 19,61 x 7,65 (fore)-8,07 (aft) metres or 410-415.33 x 64.33 x 25.1-26.5 feet. The hull was divided in 13 watertight compartments, built up with the use of transverse and longitudinal steel made frames and fitted out over 57% of the length with a double bottom. The 3-4 cylinder vertical triple expansion engines and 14 Dürt boilers supplied 15.000 (design)-15.694 (sea trials) ihp and a speed of 19,9 (sea trials)-20 (maximum design) knots. With a speed of 10 knots and a coal bunker capacity of 990 (design)-1.590 (maximum) tons was her range 2.290 nautical miles. Her crew numbered 567 men. The Krupp made armour consisted of a sloping belt of 8cm/3.1” (ends)-10cm/3.9” amidships backed by teak planks, a 3,5-4cm/1.4-1.6” thick deck, a casemate protected by 10cm with the forward conning tower, aft conning tower, main gun turrets, secondary gun turrets and guns in the casemate protected by respectively 3cm/1.2” (roof)-15cm/5.9” (sides), 1,2cm/0.47”, 3cm (roofs)-15cm (sides), 10cm and 7cm/2.8:  thick gun shields. The armament consisted of 2x1-24cm/9.4” L/40 quick firing guns, 1-15cm/5.9” L/40 quick firing guns, 10-8,8cm/3.5” L/30 quick firing guns and 4-45cm/18” torpedo tubes (1 submerged bow,2 submerged sides and 1 on pivot stern).
