German navy wanted to use aged battleship for armour strength tests according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1908-1909 no. 9

An item reported that Germany intended to use an aged battleship for gun tests on several species of armour plates. Earlier that year was the former Deutschland in the Bough of Swinemünde for that purpose used.
