An item referred to the magazine Moniteur de la Flotte reporting that during the First World War at the Schneider shipyard none French submarines of the Laubeuf design were built. Since then was the building again renewed and the first of three such submarines completed/ Dimensions 52,54 (over all) x 4,70 metres, a speed of 14 (surfaced)-8 (submerged) miles and an armament of 1 gun, 1 machinegun and 4 torpedo tubes. She was named after the killed in action French navy officer O’Byrne.
