3,7cm Maxim guns introduced in French navy according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1895-1896 No. 4

An item referred to the le Marine française reporting that in the French navy the new 3.7 cm Maxim gun was introduced. The first guns were divided over the fleet and now tested as 9 on board of ships of the serving squadron, 5 on board of ships belonging to the reserve squadron and one on board of the artillery training ship. For each gun were 1.000 bullets similar to the Hotchkiss revolver gun. Filled with 33 gram standard gunpowder allowing a speed of 400-410 metres. In the meantime was also a gunpowder invented by Maxim tested giving better results namely a speed of 530-550 metres.
