American destroyer torpedoed by submarine but arrived safely in harbour according to the Dutch newspaper Bataviaasch nieuwsblad dated 20 October 1917

An item dated Washington, USA 18th referred to a statement of admiral Sims reported that on the Tuesday before an unknown submarine torpedoed in the war zone an American destroyer. Despite she was damaged, she arrived safely in a harbour. One men killed and a second one wounded.
