German admitted loss of the battle cruiser Lützow and the cruiser Rostock according to the Dutch newspaper Het nieuws van den dag voor Nederlandsch-Indië dated 9 June 1916

Derfflinger-class battle cruisers

An item dated Amsterdam, Netherlands 8th reported that Germany officially stated that the battle cruiser Lützow (1) and the cruiser Rostock (2) sunk while towed back to the naval base. The official losses at German side were 1 battle cruiser, a battleship, 4 smaller cruisers and 5 torpedo boats. Despite finally the government admitting that the losses were very heavy, was still a lot of information hold back for the common public.(3)

1. Building ordered under Naval Programme 1912-1913 as Ersatz Kaiserin Augusta as part of the Derfflinger-class, laid down at F. Schichau, Danzig, Germany with yard number 885 in May 1912, launched on 29 November 1913, commissioned for trials on 8 August 1915, commissioned for active service in March 1916 and scuttled on 1 June 1916 being too heavily damaged.
2. Ersatz Geier of the Karlsruhe-class, laid down at Howaldtswerke, Kiel, Germany with yard number 560 in 1911, launched on 12 November 1912, commissioned on 5 February 1914 and sunk by the German torpedo boats V71 and V73 while she was too heavily damaged.
3. Battle of Jutland or Skagerrak between the British and German navies 31 May-1 June 1916. British losses 6.094 men killed, 674 men wounded, l3 battle cruisers, 3 armoured cruisers, 8 destroyers total tonnage lost 113.300 tons and German losses 2.551 men killed, 507 wounded, 1 battle cruiser, 1 pre-dreadnought, 4 light cruisers, total tonnage 62.300 tons.
