Austrian coastal defence ship Wien performed well during trials according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1896-1897 no. 8

Monarch-class

An item referred to the magazine Le Yacht reporting that the Austrian 5.500 ton armoured coastal defence ship Wien of the Monarch-class performed well during her trials at Trieste. Achieved was a speed of 17,6 miles with 8.500 ihp horsepower.(1)

Building ordered in May 1892, laid down by Stabilimento Technico Triestino, Trieste on 16 February 1893, launched by countess Kielmannsegg on 7 July 1895, commissioned on 13 May 1897, sunk by Italian MAS in the Bay of Muggia near Trieste on 10 December 1917, salvage ordered on 15 December 1917, salvage stopped on 7 June 1918 and broken up in 1920s. Of the Monarch-class consisting of the Monarch, Wien and Budapest, succeeded by the Habsburg-class.
