Austrian navy lacking sufficient number of sailors according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1913-1914 no. 6

Monarch-class

SMS Monarch

Habsburg-class

An item reported that earlier Austria intended to increase the annual contingent of militia to a number of 6.000 men in order to have a personnel strength of 21.000 men (excluded officers) in 1917 in stead of the 15.500 men. Since then was decided to increase the contingent to 7.500 men resulting with a service of 4 years a strength of 27.000 men. This increase was caused by the replacement of the Monarch (1) and Habsburg-classes (2). The air force should in 1915 number 10 officers and 156 men.

Notes
1. Monarch-class coastal defence ships consisted of the Monarch, Wien, Budapest, built between 1893-1896 and succeeded by the Habsburg-class.
2. Habsburg-class pre-dreadnought battleships consisted of the Habsburg, Arpad and Babenberg, built between 1899-1904.
