Brazil ordered building of 3-18.000 tons battleships in England according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1907-1908 no. 5


An item reported that the Brazilian cabinet ordered the building of 3-18.000 ton battleships by Armstrong.(1) The main armament of 10-30,5cm guns was to be placed in 5 heavy armoured turrets in such an arrangement that all guns could fire over the bow sides. All turrets were located on the centre line, 2nd and 4th turrets were firing over the 1st and 5th turrets. The correspondent of the Mar. Eng.a. Naval Architects at Barrow supplied somehow other details. There was one 19.000 ton battleship to be built, but there were others for another two.

1. The Minas Geraes-class consisting of the São Paulo and the Minas Geraes, both delivered in 1910. The building of the Rio de Janeiro was cancelled. Displacement 19.281 (normal-21.200 (full load) tons and an armament of 6x2-30,5cm/12” /45 guns.
