Italian Red Sea-Indian Ocean naval division created according to the magazine Mitteilungen aus dem Gebiete des Seewesens dated 1895 nr. 10

An item reported that the Italian minister of navy ordered the founding of a division for the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean to be commanded by a rear admiral with the Etna as his flagship.

Note
1. Protected cruiser of the Etna-class, laid down at Castellammare on 19 January 1883, launched on 26 September 1885, commissioned on 3 December 1887 and sold to be broken up on 15 May 1921. Main armament consisted of 2x1-25,4cm/10" guns and 6x1-15,2cm/6" guns.
