The training of new stokers in the Royal British navy founded according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1907-1908 no. 6
An item referred to the Mitteilungen aus dem Gebiete des Seewesen reporting that the new regulations for the training of stokers prescribed that on board of the ships belonging to the Home Fleet 2/3 of the total number of stokers were to be recruits . The recruits were divided in groups of ten commanded by a qualified petty officer. Before placed on board of a ship received they during 2 weeks a military training, then 4 weeks training in their future activities and then 2 weeks practically training as stoker. The following step was a stage of 2 weeks on board of a torpedo boat at sea, two weeks training in handling the machinery and finally 10 weeks training with arms before they enter actual service.
