British admiral Mark Kerr against strengthening Singapore according to the Dutch newspaper De Indische courant dated 18 October 1923

An item referred to a lecture of the British admiral Mark Kerr (1) at London, England about his experiences as commander of the fleet in the Adriatic Sea during the First World War. He thought that the Austrian battleships were of no match against the submarines. Furthermore he expressed that the 20 million for strengthening Singapore was spending money while if battleships ever succeeded in arriving there which was very doubtful they never would be able to leave and defend the British possessions in the Pacific.
