US Navy asking for tenders for stricken battleships and cruisers according to the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Handelsblad dated 11 September 1923

An item dated Washington, USA 10th reported that the US department of navy asked for tenders for buying 21 battleships and cruisers stricken under the Washington Naval Treaty.(1) The buyers were obliged to break up the ships within 18 months.

Result of the Washington Naval Conference between November 1921-February 1922 signed by USA, England, Japan, Italy and France to limit the building of battleships, battle cruisers and aircraft carriers and to limit the possession of such capital ships by stopping completion of breaking up already existing.
