Chile interested in building new battleships according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1907-1908 no. 5

British Swiftsure-class

Chilean Almirante Latoree

Argentinean Rivadavia-class

An item reported that the Chilean reorganisation plans consisted of the building of two or 3 1st class 14.000-18.000 ton battleships armed with 30,5cm guns, 1-1st class armoured cruiser, 4 destroyers large model and 1 mine vessel.(1)

Note
1. Never built. The Almirante Latorre-class consisting of the Almirante Latorre and the Almirante Cochrane were ordered to be built in England in 1911 and 1912 with a displacement of 25.401 (standard)-32.514 (full load) tons and a main armament of 10-35,6cm/14” guns. Both ships were purchased by the Royal British Navy. The pre-dreadnoughts Constitución and Libertad of the Constitución -class ordered in 1901 were sold in 1903 to the United Kingdom and commissioned in the Royal British Navy as the Swiftsure-class with a displacement of 12,370 (normal load) tons and a main armament of 2x2-25,4cm/10” guns. They were relatively small because they were just an answer to the just in Italy built Argentinean armoured cruisers (of the Giuseppe Garibaldi-class design) Rivadavia and Moreno but which were sold in 1904 to Japan . Just like the Almirante Latorre-class was an reaction of Argentine building the battleships Rivadavia and Moreno when Brazil ordered two dreadnoughts.
