German submarine service got own inspector according to the magazine Mitteilungen aus dem Gebiete des Seewesens dated 1914 nos. 1-2
An item referred to
the Marineverordnungsblatt No. 22 reporting that for the German submarine service
an own inspection headed by a flag officer was created based at Kiel, Germany. He
was responsible for the submarine divisions and single submarines in actual service,
the submarines which were to be tested and the submarine school. Until then was
the submarine inspected by the Torpedo service. The Torpedo service remained
responsible for the development of torpedoes and the radio-telegraph and
submerged signalling devices of submarines.
