Engine room of British battle cruiser HMS Renown damaged by fire according to the Dutch newspaper Het nieuws van den dag voor Nederlandsch-Indië dated 30 May 1927



An item dated London, England 28th referred to a statement of the British Admiralty that on the 26th in one of the engine rooms on board of the British battle cruiser Renown the fuel oil catches fire. The ship stopped and the fire was extinguished. Four men were slightly wounded. While the damage was not serious was the cruise program not changed. At that moment was the Renown between Fremantle and Mauritius.(1)

1. Of the Renown-class with as sister ship the Repulse. Original laid down as an improved Revenge-class design but when the First World War broke out was her completion delayed and afterwards completed as battle cruisers. Building ordered on 30 December 1914, laid down at Fairfield, Govan, Scotland on 25 January 1915, launched on 4 March 1916, commissioned on 20 September 1915 and sold on 19 March 1948.
