US Navy less strong as believed according to the Dutch newspaper Het Vaderland dated 12 May 1924

An item dated Washington, USA 12th referred to the admission of the American deputy secretary of the navy in his report sent to the Naval Committee of the House of Representatives that the figures about the strength of the British, American and Japanese as ratified under the Washington Naval Treaty were not correct. Instead of 5:5:3 were the correct proportions 5:4:3. The American president approved the proposals done in the newest annual report dealing with the modernisation of the battleships with as costs 30 million US dollars, the conversion of six from coal into oil fuelled battleships and the building of 8 light cruisers of 10.000 tons. Despite these shortages was the American navy in a good state.
