USA intended building battleships and float planes according to the Dutch newspaper De Banier dated 20 July 1934

An item reported that a day earlier the American secretary of the navy Swanson (1) stated that the US navy desperately needed new aircraft and that the battleships aged in such tempo that immediately was to start with a huge building program. As a result would the department of navy on 15th august started with the registration of tenders for building 24( ?) battleships and furthermore 100 floatplanes to be financed with the recently by the Congress approved budgets.
