Large number of British warships lying off Gibraltar according to the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Handelsblad dated 1 November 1904

An item dated London, England 31st reported that at the moment at or nearby Gibraltar 14 British battleships, 13 cruisers and a strong flotilla destroyers were available.

1. The Russo-Japanese war between 8 February 1904-5 September 1905. The Russian Baltic fleet underway towards to the Far East destroyed some British fishery vessels believing it were Japanese torpedo boats. England was furious and threatened to pursuit the Russian fleet now at Morocco to the Far East.
