French gunboat Surprise launched at Le Havre, France according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1895-1896 No. 5

An item referred to the magazine Engineering reporting the launching of the French gunboat Surprise on 24 April at Le Havre, France. Displacement 626 tons and as dimensions 183’9” x 24’7” x 12’3”. Steel built with two layers of wood and coppered, The 2 engines supplied a contracted horsepower of 650 ihp allowing a contracted speed of 13 miles. Coal bunker capacity 73 tons. The armament consisted of 2-10cm quick firing guns, 4-6,5cm quick firing guns and 4-4,7cm quick firing guns.(1)
