Japanese cruiser 3rd class Suma launched at Yoosuka, Japan according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1895-1896 No. 5

An item referred to the magazine la Marine francaise reporting the launching of the Japanese cruiser 3rd class Suma at Yokosuka, Japan. She was built by director of construction Yamaguchi, who studied at the Ecole du génie maritime, Paris, France. Displacement 2.000 tons. The horsepower of 8.500 ihp allowed a speed of 20 miles. The armament consisted of 2-15cm quick firing guns, 6-12cm quick firing guns, 12-4,7cm quick firing guns, 4 machineguns ad 2 torpedo tubes. Fitted out with an armour deck.(1)

1. Of the Suma-class protected cruisers consisting of the Suma and Akashi, preceded by the Akitsishima and succeeded by the Takasago. Building ordered in 1891, laid down at the Yokosuka Naval Arsenal on 6 August 1892, launched on 9 March 1895, completed on 12 December 1896, stricken on 4 April 1923 and broken up in 1928.
