An item reported the arrival a day earlier at Tandjong Priok, Dutch East Indies by the Russian armoured warship Admiraal Nakhimoff (1) commanded by lieutenant colonel De Livrou or Livron, armed with 18 guns and a crew numbering 570 men. With a measurement of 8.000 had she a horsepower of 8.000 hp. While her draught was 2 feet more as allowed by the depth of the harbour anchored she west of the mole.
6 March 1889. She arrived some days earlier at Singapore coming from Kronstadt, Russia to replace the flagship of admiral Schmidt. Admiral Schmidt was with his spouse and 2 daughters on board and intended to visit on the 5th the Dutch governor general accompanied by the temporarily Russian consul jhr. Ploos van Amstel. Another Dutch newspaper Bataviaasch nieuwsblad of the same date confirmed the arrival on the 3rd. According to this newspaper was she armed with 8-21cm guns, 10-15cm guns, 10 Hotchkiss guns and 4 smaller guns for salutes. Her crew numbered 575 men. It was unknown how long she was to stay although at least 4 days. Vice admiral Schmidt went in the afternoon from board and after visiting the Dutch guard ship he took his stay at the hotel Hotel der Nederlanden.
