Salt corroding aluminium torpedo boats of USS Texas according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1895-1896 No. 7

An item reported that at the Norfolk Navy Yard the effects of corrosion by salt water on the aluminium torpedo boats of the Texas was investigated. It became clear that all attachment points of the hull disappeared and the salt air even corroded an crumbled the attachment points of the decks. A solution was found in painting deck and hull as protection against the salt.
