Austrian corvette Donau visited Texel, Netherlands according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1886-1887 no. 7


An item reported that the Austrian sailing corvette Donau (1) commanded by R. Pogatschnigg (2 underway from Copenhagen, Denmark towards Lisbon, Portugal visited between 5-11 September 1886 Texel, Netherlands. Her etat major was invited by Dutch officers of the Command of Willemsoord for a diner on the 10th on board of the guard ship. However just 3 officers accepted the invitation.

1. Screw steam corvette, laid down by Navale Adriatico, Trieste [Italy] on 18 June 1873, launched on 15 October 1874 and broken up in 1888. Machinery and other parts used for her successor a screwsteam corvette with the same name.
2. Richard Pogatschnigg (14 December 1838/1839 Trieste-22 October 1895 Pula), torpedo export, rear admiral since 1893.
