An item reported that the British First Lord of the Admiralty stated that since 1918 nine battleships of the Queen Elizabeth (1) and Royal Sovereign (2) classes and the battle cruisers Renown and Repulse (3) were modernized. Main modifications were adding bulges, increased anti aircraft armament, alterations of bridge en masts and improvement of ventilation and accommodation. The armour of the two battle cruisers was improved. Total costs of the modification program was 2.870.000 pound sterling.(1)

1. Queen Elizabeth-class consisted of the Queen Elizabeth, Warspite, Valiant, Barham and Malaya.
2. Revenge or Royal Sovereign-class consisted of the Revenge, Resolution, Royal Oak, Royal Sovereign and Ramillies.
3. The Repulse and Renown were part of the Renown-class.
