British troops landed in Curacao, Netherlands Antilles according to the Dutch newspaper Nieuwe Tilburgsche Courant dated 16 May 1940

An item referred to tidings received from Willemstad, Curacao reporting that on the Sunday before the British destroyer Fraser (1) embarked a contingent troops. After arrival of 500 men of the western powers was for all West Indies islands state of siege declared.

A Canadian destroyer acquired as the British destroyers HMS Crescent on 20 October 1936, commissioned on 17 February 1937 with pennant H48 and sunk in a collision with HMS Calcutta in the Gironde estuary, France on 25 June 1940. Building ordered on 30 January 1930 under the 1929 naval Programme, laid down by Vickers-Armstrong, barrow-in-Furness, England on 1 December 1930, launched on 29 September 1931, completed on 15 April 1932 and commissioned on 21 April 1932.
