An item dated Shanghai, China 5th referred to tidings received from Nanking, China reporting that the China Merchant Steamship Company intended to buy 20 new ships of which 10 were to be used between the Asian coast and the Pacific. The editors of the newspaper however referred to earlier plans published around 1,5 year earlier in newspapers in Shanghai. The intentions were then to buy several ships and built 4 new ones. Even a shipping line towards the Dutch East Indies was planned. There plans seemed never to be executed.
