An item dated San Francisco, USA 23rd March reported that Japan after the ending of the London Naval Treaty in 1935 desired a parity in the numbers of battleships compared with the USA and England stated vice admiral Nagana on his way back from Washington, USA towards Japan. A tiding from Tokyo reported that Japan despite leaving the League of Nations wanted to keep her mandates while the former German colonies were of major importance for the Japanese navy.(1)

1.Japan left the League in 1933. The South Pacific Mandate consisted of islands in the North Pacific which earlier were part of German New Guinea. The islands were under Japanese control under the term Japanese mandate for the South Seas Island until the Second World War.
