Japanese navy creating three new squadrons according to the Dutch newspaper De Gooi- en Eenlander dated 12 December 1933

An item dated Tokyo, Japan 12th referred to a statement of the Japanese department of navy reporting that 3 new squadrons were to be created consisting of battleships, cruisers, destroyers, aircraft carriers and submarines. Each squadron was to protect a naval base. The squadron commanded by rear admiral Chonan Yamaguchi was to be stationed at Yokosuka, the one commanded by Iyoshi Kitagawa at Kure and the third one commanded by rear admiral Giichi Suski at Sasebo.
