Fire broken out on board of French ironclad battleship Hoche according to the Dutch newspaper De Sumatra Post dated 9 July 1907


An item dated Singapore 9th reported that on last Saturday a fire broke out on board of the French warship Hoche lying at Toulon. It was the third time within a month that a mysterious fire broken out on board of a French battleship.(1)

Building ordered on 3 August 1880, launched by Chantier naval Lorient on 29 September 1886, completed in January 1890, modernized including replacing the aft armoured mast by a pole mast between September 1894-April 1895, again modernized/refitted including replacement of boilers and engines between 1899-1892, decommissioned in April1908, disarmed on 1 January 1910 and sunk while used as a gunnery target for the Jauréguiberry and the Pothuau on 2 December 1913.
