French battleship Iéna heavily damaged in gunpowder explosions according to the Dutch newspaper Het nieuws van den dag voor Nederlandsch-Indië dated 14 March 1907

An item dated Paris, France 12th reported that the French battleship Jena was now lowered under water and further explosions were not longer to be feared. At the time of the accident had been 690 men on board. Among the wounded was admiral Maceron. Admiral Bienamé stated in the Chamber that he feared that 100 men were killed, The aft ship of the Jena was completely torn of. Some officers and sailors who were wounded helped to transport wounded men to the hospital. Some of them were terrible burned.(1)

1. The Iéna, a modified Charlemagne-class design, preceded by the Henri IV and succeeded by the Suffren. Building ordered on 3 April 1897, laid down by Brest Arsenal, France on 15 January 1898, launched on 1 September 1898, completed on 14 April 1903, decommissioned on 3 July 1907, sunk as target ship on 2 December 1909 and sold to be broken up in 1912.
