Japanese battleship Hatsuse 1898-1904

Of the Shikishima-class consisting of the Shikishima and the Hatsuse, preceded by the Fujij-class and succeeded by the Asahi-class. Building ordered in 1897, laid down by Armstrong Whitworth, Elswick, England with yard number 680 on 10 January 1898, launched on 27 June 1889, completed on 18 January 1901 and sunk after she striking 2 mines off Port Arthur  on 15 May 1904.

Normal displacement 15.090 tons and as dimensions 133,5 x 23,4 x 8,2 (full load) metres or 438 x 59.9 x 27 feet. The machinery consisted of 2 Humphrys Tennant vertical triple-expansion steam engines and 25 Belleville boilers delivering 14.500 shp (design)-16.117 ihp (trials) ihp via 2 shafts allowing a speed of 18 (design)-19,11 (sea trials) knots. With a maximum coal bunker capacity of 1.669 tons and a speed of 10 knots was her range 5.000 nautical miles. Crew numbered when used as a flagship 849 men. The Harvey armour consisted of a 10,2cm/4”-22,9cm/9” thick belt, a 6,4cm/2,5”-10,2cm/4” thick deck with the gun turrets protected by 25,4cm/10”. The armament consisted of 2x2-30,5cm/12” guns, 14-15,2cm/6” quick firing guns, 20x1-12pd guns, bx1-4,7cm/1.9”/3pd guns, 10x1-3,7cm/1.5”/2.5pd Hotchkiss guns and 4-45,72cm/18” torpedo tubes.
