Swedish firm L. Bamberger Aktiebolag asked Dutch shipyard Kon. Mij. De Schelde in 1940 is he was interested in a Turkish submarine order

The Swedish firm L. Bamberger Aktiebolag at Stockholm wrote on 27th January 1940 to the Kon. Mij. De Schelde if she was interested in building submarines for Turkey. Ludwig Bamberger had been for a long time director of the East Department of Friedich Krupp A.G., Essen and in this manner delivered ships and railroads parts on large scale to Turkey. Turkish friends stated that the Turkish cabinet want to built 4 submarines, 2 in Turkey and w abroad. For the building in Turkey was the foreign company to deliver stores and experienced trained personnel. Bamberger asked the Dutch shipyard if she was interested in such an order.(1) The Schelde answered on 29th January that for orders dealing with warship building she had to deal with the N.V. Nederlandsche Vereenigde Scheepsbouw Bureaux at The Hague and that the letter was sent to this office.

1. The Kon. Mij. De Schelde was the major builder of Dutch submarines for the European waters and for the Dutch East Indies. The first Dutch submarine Hr. Ms. O 1 was built by her. The only foreign submarine order she ever got and realized was for the Polish submarine Orzel.
