The planned American naval shipbuilding program according to the Dutch newspaper Bredasche Courant dated 7 November 1933

An item reported that the US Navy department was composing the new naval shipbuilding program. It included 100 million US dollars for new building including an air aircraft carrier en 5 cruisers with 17cm/6.7” guns. This was an addition to the already approved programme of 238 million US dollars and the approved supplementary budget of 77 million US dollars for modernizing the battleships. For speeding up the modernisation was 150 million US dollars asked for. The available fleet was continuously to be renewed. And at last point expanding the numbers of officers to a maximum of 2.000 and the numbers of petty officers and sailors corresponding with the number of officers.
