Mexican cabinet wanted to order battleships according to the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Handelsblad dated 18 October 1933

An item dated Madrid, Spain reported that the new Mexican minister of finance Don Antonio Lara authorized the issue of treasure bills for totally 290 million peseta’s against 5% revenue. Forty million was to be used for building battleships and which were paid with cargoes of maize and peas.(10
