An item reported that at the navy yard at Boston, USA the American training ship Cumberland on 17 August was launched. The 1.800 ton steel built bark ship had auxiliary steam power for handling the rigging in emergencies and further more for lightening, ventilation, distillation and so on. Dimensions 54 x 14 x 5 metres. Armament consisted of 6-10cm quick firing guns and a secondary armament of quick firing guns of all sorts of calibres.(1)
