Italy desperately needed more oil tankers according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1938 no. 6

An item referred to the Revista Marittime dated August 1938 reporting that the Italian admiral Ducci published an article in Il Mediterraneo dated March 1938 stating that Italy seriously lacked oil tankers. He advices to built 20 fast tankers which were to be protected against the effects of underwater explosions. Italy needed urgently to have more tankers while in times of war consumed the navy almost 50.000 tons of oil in 24 hours.
