An item referred to rumours that the British government intended to return Wei hai Wei to China.(1) It was to become naval base for the Chinese fleet to be restored with British support.(1)

Leased by the British government since 1896 until 1 October 1930. The British Royal Navy leased than Liugong Island which was invaded by the Japanese on 1 October 1940.
