French submarine Fresnel temporarily grounded according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1913-1914 no. 5

An item reported that the French submarine Fresnel (1) with a displacement of 400 (surfaced)-550 (submerged) tons grounded end July during launching tests off the island St. Marguérite. While just her fore ship stuck and the aft ship in sufficient deep water could she use her engines in reverse position. When the support of one destroyer was not enough were as much as possible the heaviest parts like anchors, chains and part of the battery cells removed. The submarine was than refloated with the support of 2 destroyers. The outer hull seemed no to be damaged but she was examined en situ with a pressure test.
